Working with type, being able to hold it and set it by hand is something I will never tire of. With all the history that comes with the process makes it even more fullfilling.
It was about 15 years ago that I wanted to find a creative outlet that moved me away from the Apple Mac, something more hands on. I found a letterpress course in Brighton, a 10-week course, one evening a week, an introduction into the Letterpress process, I signed up and never looked back!
Access to the printing equipment I need to complete my work is hard to come by so I began collecting my own. Wood type, metal type, chases, leading, type cabinets, compositing sticks... There’s so much stuff you need to do your own prints.
My wife didn’t have the same vision as I did, to turn the dining room into a print studio, so I built one in my back garden! My idea of heaven, it has a smell of ink and is filled with type, books and paper... oh and my apple Mac in the corner.
