It all started with an impromptu eBay purchase. 6 years on, that investment was one of the best I’ve ever made.

As a printmaker, having access to the right equipment is essential. With all the main screenprinting open access studios being in London, it was time to create something in my local area. Four years on, Process Club survived lock-down and has grown into a busy screenprinting studio, with an ever-growing membership bringing together artists from across East Sussex.

After winning the auction on eBay, the real process began. I never thought that I would win the Ebay auction. Suddenly, I was the owner of all the equipment needed for a working screenprinting studio. The first task was collecting the equipment, from a remote studio in Lewes, East Sussex. What could possibly go wrong?

We took all the equipment to bits and loaded it into a van and set off for the original location I had planned for my studio. Plan B had to be made very quickly as it was evident that the equipment wouldn’t even down the stairs!

After a few phone calls I was lucky enough to find a space at The Yard in Hastings. It’s an old Victorian waterworks, filled with over 50 small businesses. It’s the perfect location and studio space.

But the hard work and planning had only just begun!

The studio has grown so much since setting it up over four years ago, it’s gone through a number of transformations; getting the layout of the space right, getting all the elements to a point where I can go in and be confident that I can achieve the standard of prints that I want. After I got the space right, I then started to welcome members to use the studio space and for the last 12 months I’ve been running ‘Introduction to screenprinting’ workshops, which have been a great success, and something I really enjoy.

Process Club seemed like the obvious choice for the studio name. Not only because of the screenprinting process but also the way the studio has come about and how it’s growing.
