“It’s a family thing.”

As part of the launch project for the Devonshire Collective in Eastbourne, artists were asked to collaborate with local businesses in the Seaside area. I’m originally from South London. Pie and Mash has always been a big part of my life and holds great memories with my familiy. With a traditional Pie and Mash shop on Seaside Road this was a perfect project to explore this emotional connection.

Working closely with the local community and Donna, the owner of the shop, we organised a drop in day where people could have a free meal and also share their memories around this traditional London dish.

From the findings, two letterpress posters were created, one focusing on the food and one on the community. A free newspaper documenting the project was also produced. The project culminated in a live letterpress printing workshop in the pie and mash shop.
